Carrera Sudamericana sells out with 10 months to go
26 Oct 2005
Carrera Sudamericana , Trans World Event's 25-day marathon over the Andes in May 2006, is a complete sell-out ten months before the flag drops.

"We've never had an event where we've sold all 60 places this far in advance," said Event Director Nick Brittan, who has recently returned from a survey trip.

"We actually had more entries than we could take, so we opened a Reserve List and we've had so much pressu

re from people who want to come that I had to search out additional hotel accommodation. In some of the remote locations, that hasn't been easy.

"But I found rooms and we can now take in the Reserves and now have a few more places to offer," said Brittan.

"It's a magic route through stunning landscapes, often up in the clouds over 15,000 feet above sea level. It
certainly seems to have captured the imagination of rally drivers around the world. We have entries from 13 countries. The whole thing has just taken me by surprise."

Starting in Buenos Aires, the 5,250-mile route follows one of the great Fangio road races of the 1940s, through Bolivia, Peru and in Ecuador, to finish in Quito.

There are 35 demanding special stages totalling over 500 miles, many of them over 25 miles long.

The Rally has classes for pre-1978 classics and modern Group N (under 2 litre, 2wd) rally cars.

Running in front of the Rally is the Challenge, a regularity event with classes for 4x4 recreational vehicles, classic cars and other suitable vehicles.
